There is often a Tall Ship in Weymouth harbour, the Earl of Pembroke was moored in the harbour last week when I went sailing. I took this photograph last year and unfortunately was so busy taking the photograph I forgot to notice the name of the ship.
Weymouth hosted the famous Tall Ships race in 1994 for the third time, just after I moved to Dorset, it was an amazing sight. I found a great set of Flickr images taken at the event here.
The Earl twirling patterns in the sky, the mast poking in to the deep blues to touch those white loitering clouds.Beautiful.
The rigging is so intricate it makes beautiful geometric patterns. I enjoyed reading your blogs. 🙂
I’ve never acquired a taste for ships but I love the cobwebby look of the masts lines against the clouds in your photo. 🙂
When they are under sail they are an amazing sight and to see lots of them together was quite beautiful. You can do a holiday aboard some of these ships but you have to climb the rigging etc – bit too scaryh for me but I just love sailing ships.
I have a fear of heights and could never climb those things!
Me neither, the ideal scenario would be to have someone to do that bit for you…. 🙂
