Not an especially artistic shot but quite amusing nonetheless. We have quickly grown accustomed to longer retail opening hours here in the UK. We have had Sunday opening for so long now it seems strange to remember it wasn’t always like that. It takes a visit to the continent to remind us that outside of the big cities, shops there often close on Sundays (and some Monday mornings) and although in the South, the afternoon siesta means shops stay open later in the evenings, in the North of Europe that is often not the case.
In Geneva there is a big campaign at the moment to have longer shopping hours. The unions are fighting it strongly and the streets are decorated with posters for and against the proposal. This poster – very much against, made me laugh. Roughly translated, it says ‘Make love, not shops. NO to extending the opening hours of shops”.
Hear, hear! š
LOL! Funny! But the two are really mutually exclusive, so so much for the logic of the argument. It is memorable, however.
